Boston Women's Health Book Collective answered:Regular participation in physical activity can help you manage heart disease. In addition, one diet that appears to reduce the risk of subsequent heart attack among those with heart disease is the Mediterranean diet:
- Daily consumption of whole-grain products, fruits (4–6 servings/day), vegetables (2–3 servings/day), olive oil, non- or low-fat dairy products (1–2 servings/day), wine (1–2 glasses/day)
- Weekly consumption of fish, poultry, potatoes, olives, beans, and nuts (4–6 servings/ week), eggs and sweets (1–3 servings/week)
- Monthly consumption of red meat (4–5 servings/ month)
- Moderate consumption of fat and a high ratio of monounsaturated to saturated fat
