Individuals with movement disorders must be cognizant of demonstrating proper movement patterns when training to avoid injuries. Individuals who perform movement patterns with  some type of movement dysfunction have been shown to have a higher incidence of injury. The best method is to correct movement disorders through a systematic progressive model.

NASM recommends the Corrective Exercise Continuum (CEx) to improve movement dysfunction.  The NASM model is a scientifically proven method to correct faulty movement patterns. The CEx continuum consists of 4 phases: 1- inhibition, 2- lengthen, 3- activation, and 4 – integration. A qualified health care practitioner or NASM Corrective Exercise Specialist can identify dysfunctional movement with a quick assessment. After identifying the dysfunctional pattern the specialist can incorporate the Corrective Exercise Continuum in to your normal exercise routine.
