Can essential tremor (ET) be prevented?

  1. Essential tremors (ET) cannot be prevented. Children of people with ET have a 50 percent chance of getting the gene that causes the tremor. Having the gene, however, does not mean that they will develop a tremor. If you have an essential tremor, you can try to avoid things that trigger your tremor. Pay attention to your stress level and try to avoid too much caffeine.

    Essential tremor has no known preventative cause. There is a clear genetic component to the etiology of ET.
