Before a patient starts chemotherapy their doctor will make sure they are healthy enough for the drugs. In many cases this involves doing tests to check the heart, lungs, liver, and kidneys. Even elderly people can receive chemotherapy. Sometimes, if they have an underlying health problem the chemotherapy dose will be reduced. This is up to the doctor.
