Do vision care plans cover appliances to help those who are legally blind?

It depends. What health insurance policies and vision-care plans cover varies more than seasonal fashion trends. Since appliances that help those who are legally blind (such as magnifiers and walking or guide canes) tend to be adaptive as opposed to corrective (like glasses or contact lenses), they may even be covered under your standard health insurance plan’s medical-device coverage. Some vision care plans may cover part of the costs for powerful prescription lenses, magnifying mirrors, large print books, mobility canes and other assistive devices.
