UnitedHealthcare answered:Most vision care insurance plans pay for the cost of a basic eye exam after any applicable member co-pay amount, which may or may not include dilation. With a basic eye exam, the eye doctor will use different machines and instruments to accurately check your eyes to see if they are healthy or if you need corrective lenses. The doctor may dilate your eyes so he or she can check for diseases that may require additional treatment. If you already have corrective lenses, the ophthalmologist or optometrist will assess your current lenses and compare these to the vision test results to determine if you need new glasses. Most vision care insurance plans pay for the cost of a basic eye exam after any applicable member co-pay amount, which may or may not include dilation.
