Dr. De Vizio of Colgate answered:
Temporomandibular joint disorder (TMJ) causes similar symptoms in children and adults. They include:
    • pain in the jaw, facial muscles, or around the ear, neck, and shoulders
    • pain when talking, yawning, or making other mouth movements
    • popping or clicking sounds when opening or closing the mouth
    • difficulty chewing
    • headaches
    • locked jaw -- when the jaw literally freezes in place
TMJ is less common among children than adults. However, if your child has any of these symptoms, take her to see a doctor soon.
