    Tinnitus is not a genetic problem, and it is not something that you can inherit. Instead, tinnitus is usually the symptom of a larger problem, a disorder, generally in the inner ear. Sometimes, these disorders are caused by an injury you have had. For instance, you may have heard a very loud noise or you might have sustained a blow to your neck or head. In other cases, the disorder is physiological in nature, and it can sometimes be caused by problems that do run in families, such as hypertension and tumors.
