  1. Antioxidants found in red wine may help reduce the risk of coronary heart disease. Two types of antioxidants, flavonoids and nonflavonoids, protect the lining of the heart. Resveratrol, one of the nonflavonoids in red wine, has been found to lower "bad cholesterol" levels and prevent blood clots. Studies however, have not conclusively determined whether drinking a glass of red wine delivers these benefits. Regular exercise and a diet rich in vegetables and fruits also delivers these benefits without any of the dangerous side effects of alcohol consumption.
