    Research suggests that women's gums are affected by hormonal changes; namely in estrogen and progesterone levels. This is why women may experience increased gum inflammation during their menstrual cycle, especially during ovulation and premenstruation. This can be uncomfortable and annoying, but it tends to resolve as soon as hormone levels return to normal.
