Alcohol can worsen symptoms of overactive bladder. This is because alcohol has a diuretic effect when you drink it, which means it causes the bladder to quickly fill up. As a result, you could have a sudden, involuntary urge to urinate. It has also been shown that drinking large amounts of alcohol can dull a person’s senses. This can make people fail to recognize the need to urinate.
