  1. Children who take radiation treatments for some other cancers, including Hodgkin disease, face an increased risk for one type of endocrine cancer - thyroid cancer. Ordinary x-rays, such as chest and dental x-rays, use lower levels of radiation, although frequent x-rays carry a higher risk. Adults who are exposed to radiation face little increased risk of thyroid cancer.
