Do medications treat G6PD deficiency?

There is no medication that can cure G6PD deficiency. In fact, many medications actually have a negative impact on people with the disorder. That is, they might cause the red blood cells, weakened by the deficiency, to break down. Drugs that should be avoided include: pain relievers like aspirin and ibuprofen, plus some antibiotics, antibacterial medicines, malaria treatments, and fungus medications. Viral or bacterial infections might also trigger red blood cells to disintegrate, at which point the person will need to find a safe medication to treat the infection.
