    While the actual cause of canker sores is unknown, these painful mouth ulcers may be linked to emotional stress, dietary deficiencies, hormones, allergies, celiac disease (gluten intolerance), and Crohn's disease, an inflammatory bowel disease. Some people may be genetically inclined to get mouth ulcers.
