  1. The term "auditory processing disorder" covers a wide range of symptoms and difficulties. All symptoms have to do with the way the hearing process works, rather than ear function or attention. Within this range, though, individuals may have problems in certain areas, such as in distinguishing meaningful language from background noise or telling the difference between words that sound very similar.
