What is the difference between OTC aloe vera and prescription aloe vera?
-
Aloe vera is available over-the-counter mixed with other ingredients or in its pure form. There are a few prescription medications with aloe vera as one of the active or inactive ingredients, but there is no prescription strength aloe vera. Individuals can purchase their own aloe vera plant and break open the leaves to use the gel. This herb has been used in studies involving cancer patients and has been used along with chemotherapy to benefit individuals with metastatic cancer.

Burke Lennihan RN CCH answered:None except the prescription version will probably be more expensive. For an excellent over-the-counter brand, try George’s Always Active Aloe Vera, available in health food stores. It looks and tastes like water, and it’s great to drink if you are trying to repair your digestive system.
For burns, an over-the-counter form is growing your own aloe vera plant right on your kitchen counter! You can break off a leaf and squeeze the gel right onto a burn or sunburn.
