How are deviated septum and turbinate hypertrophy treated?
-
Johns Hopkins Medicine answered:A nasal steroid spray is often prescribed to treat problems with turbinate hypertrophy. The spray can help reduce the inflammation of the mucous lining, and therefore decongest the nose, improving nasal breathing. If the obstruction is caused by bony structures rather than inflammation, surgery may be required. The surgery may involve straightening the septum, in a procedure called septoplasty, or reducing the size of the turbinates, a procedure called turbinoplasty.
