How does rotator cuff tendonitis bring difficulty to daily life?

Dr. Stephen Q Parker of MDLIVE answered:Well in terms of activities of daily living, it is very difficult to put a shirt on, brush your teeth, comb your hair and feed yourself with severe rotator cuff injuries. The symptoms associated with rotator cuff injuries are pain with movement, decreased range of motion and weakness to name a few. Rotator cuff inflammation and tendonitis are generally treated with anti-inflammatory medications, such as nonsteroidals or steroids. Certainly therapies are important with being able to isolate and strengthen the exact muscle of the rotator cuff that has been injured and if rotator cuff injuries are brought on by arthritis, arthroscopic surgery may be helpful to remove bone spurs and other injured tissues in the rotator cuff.

Dr. Matthew C. Evans of Intermountain Healthcare answered:Rotator cuff tendonitis is usually felt as a baseline ache that is worse with activity. The ache is often felt on the outside of the shoulder and can radiate down the outside of the arm to the elbow. Painful activities include overhead activity, lifting, and even sleeping. With progressive disease, the pain will begin to limit overhead motion and rotating motions, like reaching behind you back. Some people first notice this as pain with putting on a shirt, combing their hair, or driving.
