Will I have the critical care nurse when I move to a regular room?

    In most hospitals, critical care nurses will stay in the critical care areas to take care of new patients requiring these services. These nurses have very special training, and it is important that they be available to critical patients. However, there are some hospitals where the critical care nurse may work in both critical care and the regular room area.

    Once you are well enough to transfer out of the critical care unit, you will probably move into an intermediate care unit or to a medical/surgical unit. These units are staffed with nurses who have the expertise to help you safely transition to the next level of care or, hopefully, back home!
