    ICU (intensive care unit) or Critical care unit are the same type of units. Seriously ill patients are treated in these units. Other names for specialized areas for very sick patients are "coronary care unit" (CCU) for heart patients or "surgical intensive care unit" (SICU) for patients who have had surgery.
