How does a cosmetic dentist evaluate teeth?
-
Dr. Jonathan B. Levine answered:Your cosmetic dentist will take into account your teeth themselves. The central incisors are the laterals and canines (aka the eye teeth or bicuspids), on the left and the right.
- Proportion of Central Incisors: The two central most upper teeth, the central incisors are the dominant players of the smile. They should be one and a half the width of the lateral incisors, which flank either side
- Proportion of Central to Lateral to Canine: The three most prominent sets of teeth, the central incisors, laterals and canines are measured against one another.
- Occlusal Evaluation: The evaluation of how good your bite is.
- Gingival and Tooth Characteristics: Gingival Asymmetry: If you have a high smile line, an uneven gum can be more prominent.

Dr. William Litaker answered:A dentist that offers cosmetic dentistry will be evaluating the color, size, shape, and position of your teeth. The position of your lips and gums will also be evaluated. X-rays, photographs, and study models may be taken. You should tell your dentist about your concerns.
