State boards of nursing regulate a nurse practitioner’s scope of practice and prescribing ability. Some states are more restrictive with the nurse practitioner’s prescriptive authority and autonomy than other states. Nurse practitioners have an advanced Masters or Doctorate degree and are nationally certified in a specific area, such as Family Nurse Practitioner, board certified (FNP-BC). I treat patients with diabetes type two (insulin and non-insulin dependent), Hypertension, Coronary artery disease, thyroid disease, Congestive heart failure, Afib, Dermatology issue, rashes, wounds, burns, fractures, infections, GERD, Reflux, ENT issues, Neuro issues and colds (viruses). As a Nurse Practitioner it all depends upon where you are practicing. Some Np's in certain specialty areas may only see certain types of patients, other NP's working in Internal med or Emergency Room see a more broad range of patients. I am a nurse practitioner practicing in Internal medicine and Emergency Room Medicine.
