    People with Munchausen syndrome have such a compelling need to assume the sick role that they will literally risk killing themselves with unnecessary medical procedures or self-inflicted medical conditions. In addition, Munchausen patients often have other problems such as alcohol or drug abuse, financial difficulties, and impaired relationships.
