Should I tell my child's school about an extracranial germ cell tumor?
-
Because extracranial germ cell tumors are not contagious, school officials do not need to be alerted to a potential health threat at school. If symptoms or side effects of treatment (e.g., chemotherapy) are highly visible or disruptive at school, however, you may want to allay fears by explaining some or all of your child's condition to the administration and your child's teachers. What and how much you or your child says to anyone at school is up to your respective discretions. If your child must miss school due to symptoms or treatment, you may be required to provide an explanation for the absence.
