Maintaining good oral health is essential to reducing bad breath in children. Be sure to schedule regular dental visits for your child and take care to make sure he or she is brushing and flossing regularly. If you think your child has constant bad breath, keep a log of the foods he eats and make a list of medications. Some medications may play a role in creating mouth odors.

Children should be taught proper dental hygiene, including tooth and tongue brushing, as soon as they are old enough. Good oral hygiene together with regular visits to a dentist can prevent decay, which can contribute to  bad breath (halitosis). Proper nutrition and drinking plenty of water can improve the flow of saliva, which may help prevent cavities and bad breath. If you give your child gum, it should be sugar-free. Do not give a child mouthwash. Many contain alcohol, which can poison a child.

Treating bad breath in children is the same as treating bad breath in adults. A program of good daily oral hygiene with twice daily brushing of the teeth and tongue and flossing is advisable. Also schedule regular dental visits for professional cleanings twice yearly.

How to treat children with bad breath (halitosis) is to find the source of bad breath.

    Sources of bad breath are:
