    Dr. Louis Rosner answered:
Chelation treatment has legitimate uses in medicine today since it removes excess amounts of metal and minerals from the body. It is used effectively in heavy-metal poisoning, including lead, arsenic, and mercury. Unfortunately, chelation treatment is used inappropriately for arteriosclerosis and multiple sclerosis. There is no scientific basis for these treatments, and they are not recommended. Side effects include nausea, vomiting, and kidney damage.
