What causes white patches in my mouth with diabetes?

The white patches in your mouth and on your tongue may be thrush. Thrush is a fungal infection that is relatively common in people with diabetes. If you have had problems controlling your blood glucose levels, you are at higher risk of thrush. Fungal infections in the mouth cause white spots or patches on the tongue and in other areas of the mouth. These areas can hurt and sometimes become painful ulcers. If you smoke or wear dentures, your risk of thrush is increased. Also, if you have taken antibiotics recently, your risk of thrush is higher. There is treatment for fungal infections of the mouth. Call your doctor or dentist and talk about your situation with thrush.
