  1. Electrical burns are caused by an electrical current that makes contact with the body. Electrical burns can happen in a variety of ways, from an appliance that isn't working properly to household electrical wiring. With high voltage power lines, the person doesn't even have to come in direct contact with the line - the electricity can arc, or jump, as far away as several feet to someone standing nearby.
