    In theory, vitamin E supplements can provide the same benefits as vitamin E in food. However, supplements often contain extremely high doses of vitamin E that may be bad for your health. High doses of vitamin E increase the risk of serious bleeding and hemorrhagic stroke. Some studies have also suggested that men taking vitamin E supplements are at greater-than-average risk for developing prostate cancer. The RDA for most adults is 22.5 IU per day.

    In a study, increasing the intake of vitamin E from food sources was shown to reduce the risk of Alzheimer’s disease. However, intake of vitamin E from supplements was not significantly associated with the risk of Alzheimer’s disease
