Can vaginal infections be prevented?

  1. Some vaginal infections cannot be prevented, but there is much you can do to reduce your risk. You should avoid douching, wear cotton underwear, and try not to use scented soap and hygiene products on your vagina. Proper hygiene is important; always wipe from front to back after using the toilet. Using condoms during sex also lessens your chances of getting a sexually-transmitted vaginal infection.

    Yes, chronic yeast infections can be prevented once the underlying cause is discovered.  If the patient does not have any type of underlying cause for her chronic yeast infections, the best way to treat chronic yeast infections is by changing her diet.  A diet with less carbohydrates and no simple sugars(sodas or candy) as well as a diet rich in probiotics such as acidophilus can help change and decrease the recurrence of the patient's yeast infections.
