Using phototherapy at home with a UVB light unit is a common practice for many people with plaque psoriasis.  Not only is it cheaper but it is convenient and private. The home phototherapy is the same as at your doctor's office.
You have to be consistent and do the therapy on a regular schedule.

When you do phototherapy at home, be sure to follow your doctor's instructions verbatim. Keep seeing your doctor for regular check-ups to make sure the phototherapy is helping--not worsening your plaque psoriasis. You will need a doctor's prescription to purchase phototherapy equipment. In some cases, your health insurance company will reimburse you for part of the expense.
