  1. Because syphilis is a sexually transmitted disease, there are several ways to prevent it, or at least to reduce your risk. Obviously, the most effective way to prevent syphilis is to avoid having sex, or to only have sex with a monogamous partner who isn't infected. It's also important to talk to your partner about each other's statuses as far as sexually transmitted diseases. Using a condom every time you have sex can also help prevent syphilis.
