How can scoliosis be prevented?

  1. There is no evidence that scoliosis can be prevented. The majority of scoliosis cases have no known cause, and it may be passed down through generations. Additionally, in the cases where scoliosis is caused by a birth defect or another condition, scoliosis can merely be treated. Although there is no definitive prevention method for scoliosis, early detection and treatment can slow or even stop the progression of the condition.

    The onset of scoliosis unfortunately cannot be prevented, but its course can be altered (improved) with early recognition and treatment. That is why it is important that children (especially with a family history of scoliosis) are checked regularly by their pediatrician and family members.

    Scoliosis cannot be prevented. Treatment is aimed at preventing the curve from getting worse.
