There is a chance that removing the cataract can increase the wet macular degeneration, so it is a judgment call as to how much the cataract is interfering with the vision and how much of the poor vision is due to the macular problem. You need to get good advice from the retinal specialist doing the injections as to when he thinks it is appropriate to remove the cataract. The leakage risk can be reduced by using eye drops before and after the cataract surgery.
