Can a perineal hernia be prevented?
-
Perineal hernias that develop through a congenital opening in the abdomen wall are impossible to prevent. Other factors that increase the risk of perineal hernia are also impossible to prevent such as having an abnormally low abdomen cavity, developing ovarian cancer or other forms of cancer. Perineal hernias that develop later in life may be rare but are also difficult to prevent. Preventing injury and treating illness that cause openings in can help reduce the risk for perineal hernia. Healthy eating, regular exercise, and routine doctor visits are good ways to help reduce other risk factors.
