It is known that people with diabetes typically have elevated levels of fatty particles in their blood known as triglycerides. High levels of triglycerides are considered to be one of the reasons that people with diabetes have an increased risk for heart disease. Oils from a variety of fish, such as sardines, are thought to have beneficial effects on blood triglyceride concentrations in patients with diabetes.
