    Dr. Dawn Marcus answered:
It is unknown whether mineral supplementation might be helpful for fibromyalgia. Research has shown reduced levels of zinc and magnesium in people with fibromyalgia, and low zinc has been correlated with fibromyalgia tender points. Low magnesium has been linked to fatigue. Studies are not available as to whether supplementation with zinc might be beneficial. Combining magnesium with malic acid (the active ingredient in many sour or tart foods) may be beneficial, although no benefits could be documented in well-designed, controlled studies.
