Men can develop HER2-positive breast cancer. In this type of breast cancer, the cancer cells have excess levels of a protein called the HER2 protein, which makes them grow and spread more quickly than normal. For this reason, HER2-positive breast cancer tends to be aggressive -- it spreads quickly and has a high rate of recurrence.

However, there are drugs that target HER2-positive breast cancers specifically, which have improved the prognosis for this disease. Men who are diagnosed with breast cancer should be screened for HER2 to ensure that they receive the best possible treatment for their disease.
