First, meditation heightens your awareness so that, for example, if you are in a crummy job or a lousy relationship, you may become so intensely aware of how bad you feel in the situation that you want to change it.
Also, as you strengthen your inner life through meditation, you seem to develop the ability to reflect your new inner state through your outer circumstances. So let’s say you quit the job where you’ve been treated really badly. If you have a strong daily meditation practice in which you feel inner peace and happiness, you’re likely to find a new job where you feel more happy and peaceful than in your old job. I can’t explain how this works but I’ve seen it happen many times.
Finally, the strengths that you develop through a daily meditation practice, such as concentration, perseverance and self-discipline, can carry over into transforming another aspect of your life. You may use those same qualities to start an exercise program or quit smoking, for example.
