    As far as doctors know, it's not possible to prevent keratosis pilaris. This common skin condition occurs when hair follicles (openings in the skin through which hairs grow) become clogged with protein called keratin. In general, you can help keep your skin healthy by bathing regularly and cleansing skin with a gentle soap or other cleanser.
