Audrey Quick - NASM Elite Trainer answered:Yes, you can absolutely lose weight as a vegan. The key is eating lots of whole foods, and skipping the vegan junk food. You'll want to eats lots of fruits, veggies, grains and legumes, and go easy on the seeds/nuts/avocados. These are good fats, but fats still have the most concentrated calories, so we don't want to overdo these items. You'll also want to stay away from processed foods. These are full of empty or near empty calories. Water saute your veggies, and save the calories from the oil. A pound of non starchy veggies has only 100 calories, so indulge in these. Fruit is still a nutritional bargain with about 300 calories/pound. (compare to oil which is 4000 calories/pound.)
The fiber in the plant food will help keep you full. It's great for weight loss.Yes, you can absolutely lose weight as a vegan. Laura Russell answered:If the basis and bulk of your diet is whole foods, especially vegetables, you will lose weight. Vegetables have very little calories and are mostly water, vitamins and fiber. Fill up on these instead of packaged vegan products and you will lose weight. Exercise is also an important factor. You need about 45 minutes of exercise most days of the week for weight loss- vegan diet or not. It takes 3,500 calories less to lose 1 pound and this applies to any diet. Start tracking your intake and exercise, fill up on vegetables and you will be on your way towards your goal weight.
