Can I exercise with spinal stenosis?

    Yes but you should avoid high impact sports which might put too much vertical force on your spine. This involves running, jumping, quick turning pivots, etc. Also hyperextension of the neck and back will only exacerbate your spinal stenosis symptoms (pain, numbness and weakness.) Your endurance is likely less as well with spinal stenosis so stop before your body tells you to stop as you get to know your limits.

    These types of structural problems are extremely specific as are the recommendations for activities of daily living and exercise. This decision must be made by your physician and the health care provider you are referred to by your doctor for rehab and exercise. Knowing the specifics of the stenosis, symptoms, etc., all have to be taken into account before recommendations for exercise.
