Can hoarseness be cured?

Hoarseness can last for a very short time or for a very long time. If the cause is minor - like coughing or talking too loudly - it will often go away on its own, though vocal rest will help it go away much more quickly. If the cause is more serious - like laryngeal cancer or a polyp on the vocal cords - then the cure for hoarseness may depend on whether the cause can be cured. In these cases, there is a chance that surgery will be required.
