  1. Hangovers themselves are usually not life-threatening, but the aftereffects of drinking could be life-threatening for certain people with conditions that make alcohol consumption dangerous. People with certain medical conditions, such as disease of the liver or pancreas, or hemorrhagic stroke should avoid alcohol altogether. Pregnant women and people with certain precancerous lesions shouldn't drink either. If you have a family history of alcoholism, monitor your intake carefully, as you are at increased risk for developing this disorder; if you begin to have hangovers frequently, it could be a warning sign.
