Some research suggests green tea may be helpful in reducing blood glucose and the risk of type 2 diabetes. It has been studied in mice and humans, showing some antihyperglycemic effects. It is thought to act on blood glucose levels throughout the body, but specifically by promoting the action of insulin in the uptake of glucose in muscles and fat cells.  Much more research is needed to establish the benefits in vivo.
