How can feng shui practices help promote quality sleep?

Dr. Mehmet Oz answered:Feng shui is the ancient Chinese science that uses shapes, colors, textures, sound, light, symbolic imagery and the arrangement of furniture to adjust the energy of a home. A misaligned bedroom may block or weaken energy flow, making you feel tired, depressed, or unable to focus.
Energy tends to be stagnant near the walls of a room. Place your bed away from corners to avoid feeling stifled by the lack of space between the side of your bed and the wall.
Don’t put your bed next to a window, as it is thought in feng shui that the window drains out the good energy. Ideally, the window should be to the side of the bed so you can receive positive energy from the universe when you wake up.
When lying in bed you should have full view of the door, but the soles of your feet should not face the doorway. You may feel anxious if you are unable to see who is approaching the room, and over time it is thought that this could create an imbalance in the nervous system.Feng shui is the ancient Chinese science that uses shapes, colors, textures, sound, light, symbolic imagery and the arrangement of furniture to adjust the energy of a home. Ben Kaminsky answered:Using feng shui in the bedroom is said to balance Chi (energy) and improve the space as the mind and body are prepared for deep, healing sleep. Consider the following suggestions:
- Whether at work or at home, excessive clutter has a strong, negative impact. Clean out excess clutter in the bedroom, focusing on the closet, under the bed, and chest of drawers to boost positive relaxation at nighttime.
- Electro-magnetic energy in the bedroom might result in poor health, according to feng shui practitioners. To keep the bedroom peaceful and a haven for rest, move the television, computer, radio, and answering machine to another room. If there are electronics in the bedroom, place them at least six feet away from the bed.
- Have a healthy plant or two in the bedroom. Feng shui practitioners believe that plants absorb stress and have a positive impact in the healing process.
- While preparing for bed, play soft music or a “sounds of nature” CD to create a tranquil, spa-like environment in the room.
- Feng shui practitioners believe that sharp edges or corners on walls, furniture, and rooflines are symbolic of poison arrows. Soften sharp corners of the bedroom by hanging a plant or wind chime from the ceiling.
