Similar to adults, children can have the same dental problems and, like adults, can get combination dental crowns as a way to restore a bad tooth.

Dental crowns, sometimes called a cap, are like a slip for a tooth that helps reshape a damaged or decayed tooth so that it appears to be normal in size.

Because a child’s primary teeth eventually fall out, some people mistakenly believe that spending money on dental work on baby teeth is a waste of money. However, a dental crown can be an effective way to stop further decay of a child's tooth, whether it is a baby tooth or permanent, and save money down the road on bigger dental problems.

While baby teeth are important for many reasons, one key function is to maintain a sort of footprint for the child’s permanent teeth to follow. Decayed or infected teeth could jeopardize the proper development of the space needed when the permanent teeth begin to arrive.

Without treatment, a diseased baby tooth, can also spread infection and pose additional problems when permanent teeth begin to come in, possibly resulting in stains and weaker teeth.
