    UCLA Health answered:
A heart attack can cause atrial fibrillation. For people with severe heart disease, though, the causation can also run the other way: An episode of atrial fibrillation may trigger a heart attack. Call 911 if you experience possible heart attack symptoms such as chest discomfort, which may feel like pressure or squeezing; pain or discomfort in one or both arms, the back, neck, jaw, or stomach; shortness of breath; nausea.
