Can adults develop extracranial germ cell tumors?

Children can still develop extracranial germ cell tumors as adults, although in many cases the risk is reduced. The majority of testicular cancer developed by men (mostly between 20 and 35 years of age) is germ cell cancer. Women can develop germ cell ovarian cancer into adulthood, though their risk of this specific type decreases after 30. Other types of ovarian cancer are more likely later in middle age and beyond. New tumors may develop in those who were diagnosed as children, but it usually recurs within 3 years.
