A few studies show that caffeine may slightly boost weight loss or prevent weight gain, but none of them showed large amounts of weight loss or permanent weight loss. Caffeine may affect weight in the following ways: 1. Calorie burning. Caffeine may increase the heat our bodies make from digesting food. Doubtful though that this would contribute in any significant way to weight loss; 2. Appetite suppression. Caffeine may reduce our desire to eat for a brief time, but there’s not enough evidence to show that drinking a lot of coffee will help us eat less over time. While there’s nothing wrong with an occasional cup of coffee, using it as your primary weight loss tool is not a good idea. Also, don’t forget caffeine is a stimulant and too much can cause nervousness, insomnia and other problems. Also, some caffeinated beverages, such as specialty and frozen blended coffees are high in calories and fat. So instead of losing weight, you might actually gain it.
